U+I has submitted proposals for its Waltham Forest regeneration scheme
Property developers U+I have submitted their proposals for a new mixed-use regeneration project in Waltham Forest which could see the introduction of new housing and new workspaces to the east London borough.
In tandem with the landowners Parkdale Investments, U+I’s plan for its Equipment Works site encompasses 337 new homes and 18,830 sq ft of commercial floorspace which would sit within the Blackhorse Lane Area Action Plan.
Designed by DLA Architects, the scheme draws on the area’s industrial heritage where, between 1908 and 1927, the Associated Equipment Company Factory manufactured motorised London buses which were the forerunners to the iconic Routemaster bus.
The plans are also set to complement further projects in the area with neighbouring proposals along Ferry Way and The Standard unlocking widespread regeneration in the area and bringing commercial and residential space in the process.
Simon Hesketh, Director of Regeneration, at U+I, commented: “There is already substantial investment in the Blackhorse Road area and unlocking the potential of the Equipment Works site is crucial to provide the missing link between neighbouring proposals.
“U+I’s scheme will form the heart of a new community, acknowledging the distinct history of the site and bringing fresh vitality to the area, building on its industrial heritage. We believe this will encourage residents and businesses to look at Waltham Forest with fresh eyes.”
A significant landscaped portion and a social and events space by Blackhorse Workshop are also planned for the site which, if approved, will sit just 150m from Blackhorse Road station.
Following submission of the proposals, a Parkdean Investments representative said: “We are delighted to be progressing a scheme that reflects the history and heritage of the site whilst providing much needed housing for local people.”
