Businesses boost Calvert Trust Kielder funds

GENEROUS regional businesses taking part in Calvert Trust Kielder’s annual corporate fundraiser have raised more than £7,000 to support services for disabled people, their families and carers.

Hexham-based charity Calvert Trust Kielder welcomed teams from across the region, including Utilitywise, TLW Solicitors, Bellway and event sponsors Gale and Phillipson, for the ‘Kielder Quest’ challenge which involved physical and mental land and water based activities.

Teams of six battled through the instructor-led challenges, including ‘Giant’s Ladder’, ‘Floating down River’ and ‘Saved by the Bell’, in a bid to take home the coveted first prize and Kielder Quest trophy.

HT Media & Friends were declared the eventual winners on the day with Gateshead’s Primula Cheese team coming a close second and receiving a special award for displaying outstanding team spirit.

Beth Hendy was part of Primula’s winning team and said: “We were all so excited to be taking part in the Kielder Quest. It is a great event in fantastic surroundings. Primula is owned by a charitable trust which donates profits to good causes, so it’s great that we can have fun working together as a team whilst also supporting the good work done by Calvert Trust Kielder.”

The event was supported by a team of volunteers from Northumbrian Water who assisted Calvert Trust Kielder staff with logistics, challenges and scoring.

Calvert Trust Kielder’s Charlotte Gaunt organised the event. She said: “Despite getting wet again it was a great event with real grit and determination shown by all those taking part on the day.

“We’re glad that everyone enjoyed it and thrilled with the amount of money raised for the charity. This is always one of our biggest and most popular fundraising events and with the support of regional businesses it continues to be a real financial boost for the charity and vital for our ongoing work with disabled adults and children.

“We’re very grateful to everyone who took part in and supported the event. Thank you.”

The next Kielder Quest will take place on February 22nd & 23rd 2018. For further information and to reserve your place visit www.calvert-trust.org.uk/kielderquest or call the fundraising team on 01434 250232.
