Construction partner chosen for Royal Borough regeneration development
Housing association Catalyst has chosen United Living as the construction partner on the next stage of its flagship Portobello Square regeneration development.
Phase 2A of the scheme, designed by Conran + Partners from a masterplan by PRP Architects, will see United Living create 60 new homes for social rent and a further 31 for private sale.
The design and build contract will include an option for extension into Phase 2B.
Demolition of the existing buildings on the site, located adjacent to Portobello Road in the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea, is well underway.
Construction work is expected to begin in July 2017, with handovers due by Spring 2019.
Tom Titherington, Catalyst’s executive director of property and growth, said: “We worked closely with our residents to ensure that we made the right decision and I am delighted that we will be working with United Living on the next phase of construction.
“Portobello Square is a fantastic looking scheme and we are very proud of it. Once complete, the new buildings will help shape a resilient, mixed-tenure neighbourhood that builds on the close sense of community that already exists in the area.”
How the development will look
Once complete, the wider Portobello Square scheme will create around 1,000 new homes, over 32,000 sq ft of commercial space and nearly 97,000 sq ft of public space.
United Living divisional director Steve Carden commented: “We are very excited to be working with Catalyst on Portobello Square.
“We were struck by the sense of community already there and we look forward to getting to know the residents and key local stakeholders better over the course of construction.”
