Property partnership secures greenlight for 19,500 sq ft Aldi in Widnes

North West construction and property firm Pochin’s Ltd has been given the go ahead to deliver a 19,500 sq ft supermarket in Widnes.

Halton Borough Council greenlit the firm’s plans to build a new foodstore in the Farnworth area for supermarket chain Aldi.

Pochin’s put the project forward in partnership with Malahat Properties Ltd, Hulme Upright Architects and planning consultancy How Planning.

The vacant 143,000 sq ft plot chosen for the store is located next to Derby Road and was once home to a manufacturing plant.

Remediation work on the site has already taken place, as part of a wider plan for new housing and supporting amenities in the area.

The one-storey shop will be supported with 159 parking spaces and a newly refurbished access road.

Pochin’s property director Bob Nicholson said: “Whilst we have a diverse portfolio of ongoing development opportunities across the North West, every Pochin’s site is linked by a desire to deliver projects that give people a place to live, work and play, contributing to prosperity in the region.

“The overall masterplan for the wider site represents that vision and we’ll be proud to support it with the creation of this new foodstore.”

With planning approval secured, work on the project will begin in the summer.

A spokesperson for Aldi commented: “As well as having a positive impact on the local economy, this new store will also deliver a high quality retail facility in line with the regeneration plans for the area.”
