Grey Street consultancy Roberts Environmental to double workforce

Geo-environmental consultancy Roberts Environmental has revealed plans to double its workforce over the next few years.

The Newcastle-based company was founded in 2012 and has since grown its team to six.

Roberts Environmental now wants to increase its workforce to 12 staff and secure a bigger office in the area by 2020.

The firm provides environmental advice and related services for developers, investors and banks from its premises on Grey Street.

In 2016 Roberts Environmental landed a raft of new clients instructions, including site investigations for Lidl as the supermarket chain continues to expand in the North East.

The company also acted on behalf of Northumberland County Council when it carried out a site investigation and risk assessment project on the County Hall site in Morpeth.

Elsewhere, Roberts Environmental provided geo-technical services for property firm CBRE Global Investors in relation to Durham’s Arnison Shopping Centre.

MD and founder Jeff Roberts said: “I am very pleased that over the last five years we have developed a fantastic client-base with the likes of Columbia Threadneedle, Gentoo Group and Gleeson Homes.

“With a really strong professional team in place we are able to provide a wide range of environmental services in relation to issues such contaminated land, flood risk and coal mine assessments.”

He added: “From our clients’ perspective the appetite for development is currently better than at any time since we started the business so we are positive about the outlook.”

Other client instructions included consultancy advice for Auckland Castle Trust and site investigation work on the Tyne Tunnel Trading Estate for UK Land Estates.

Roberts Environmental director Mike Hay commented: “Whilst the majority of our work is carried out here in the North East, we also undertake work across the UK.

“Our latest instruction is in Hampshire where we have been appointed by Marick who are developing industrial units in Fareham.”

He continued: “Our clients value the commercial solutions we provide in response to environmental issues, which ultimately can enable them to progress with development plans.”
