Transformation of Tameside ‘eyesore’ into £14m retail development a step closer
A project to create a new £14m retail development in Tameside has taken a step closer after Maple Grove Developments signed a development agreement with Peak Valley Housing Association.
The nine-acre district centre on Stockport Road in Hattersley will deliver as many as 14 units ranging from 1,250 sq ft to 26,000 sq ft for retail and leisure operators.
Talks are now underway with a number of national brands.
Maple Grove Developments’ Andrew Dewhurst said: “We’ve been working closely with our public sector partners to develop a scheme that meets local need and delivers inward investment and economic benefits by providing a good range of retail, leisure and commercial opportunities.
“Being selected as the lead developer from a number of bidders is testament to our experience in creating significant urban regeneration schemes that deliver real change to the people who live and work there as well as attracting new residents, and we look forward to work getting underway on site.”
Peak Valley MD Phil Corris commented: “The appointment of Maple Grove marks another crucial step in the regeneration of the Hattersley and Mottram estate.
“This development will create much needed employment opportunities for local people and will vastly improve the retail offer in the area.”
He added: “It will breathe new life into a large site which has proved difficult to bring to the market and has been an eyesore for years.”
Appointed letting agents on the scheme are Reid Rose Gregory and Bradys of Manchester.
Work on the retail development is expected to start in 2018.
