Barnsley natural health business rolls out further expansion plans

BetterYou, the Barnsley-based natural health company, has announced it is expanding its premises and product range.

The company, which specialises in the field of transdermal (through the skin) magnesium and oral vitamin spray supplementation, will almost double its floor space to over 12,000 sq ft at Unit 23, Shortwood Court in Shortwood Business Park.

The expansion will enable the company to grow its distribution capabilities and develop its export opportunities.

Andrew Thomas, founder and managing director of BetterYou, said: “Over the last 10 years BetterYou has grown from a one-man startup in 2007 to a multi-million-pound international brand.

“Each year we’ve seen the BetterYou brand go from strength to strength. The company is going through a significant period of strategic growth and our focus continues to be the production of high quality products (including the world’s first Turmeric Oral Spray and MagnesiumGel), supported by continued research and greater retail availability.

“The last decade has seen us thrive as a business both nationally and internationally, however we are a business based in the heart of Yorkshire and are very proud to have recently been shortlisted in the Life Sciences category at the prestigious Insider Made in Yorkshire Awards 2017.”

Over the last five years, BetterYou has more than tripled its number of staff. In 2014, the company relocated to the larger purpose-built unit in Hoyland, having outgrown its existing home in Sheffield.

At the end of 2016, a requirement for further expansion was identified, with a lease of the neighbouring unit being agreed in April 2017.

Along with its long-term listings in Holland and Barratt, BetterYou has now expanded into other outlets including Fortnum & Mason, Wholefoods and independent retailers.

The business has reported growth of over 20% year-on-year with a 66% increase in profit for the past two years.

In addition, BetterYou now exports to over 30 countries including Finland, New Zealand and South Africa.
