Over 140 new jobs to be created as work finishes on £6.2m HQ for Wakefield electrical company

Construction work has now been completed on new headquarters for a electrical, power and data solutions company which will create more than 140 jobs in Wakefield.

Clegg Construction’s Yorkshire office has delivered the £6.2m building for OE Electrics Limited, which is based at Calder Park.

Built on a 2.27 hectare site, the building houses OE’s head office along with advanced manufacturing, research and development, assembly and distribution facilities.

Founded 1986, the company supplies a range of cable management, power, data and computer accessories for the commercial and public sector with offices in London, Dubai and a manufacturing facility in Australia.

OE’s new facility will help create 144 office, assembly and apprenticeship roles over the next eight years.

The projecy was funded with support from the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (LEP) after OE secured a £500k grant from the LEP to invest in job creation and expansion along with a further loan of £1m to help pay towards construction costs to aid business growth.

The steel framed building comprises two portal frames which form the main office and advanced manufacturing area. External works include the creation of a service yard, car park, hard and soft landscaping and minor highway works.

Simon Blackburn, Clegg Construction’s managing director, said: “The new warehouse and offices highlights our strength in the industrial market.”

David Masters, group managing director for OE Electrics, added: “We had run out of space to expand on our previous site and were working from four different buildings.

“We now have a quality new build site which has visual impact and is energy efficient. It brings everything together under one roof which means we are now able to increase export and expansion into new markets.

“Working with Clegg Construction has been a great experience; they are a very professional company. There has been good communication and the build has been well project managed.”
