Sanderson Weatherall confirmed as letting agents for 22,000 sq ft Newgate Centre scheme
Property consultants Sanderson Weatherall have been announced as letting agents on a new landmark development in Newcastle city centre.
The Newcastle-based firm is to oversee the hunt for new tenants at Newgate Centre, the retail and leisure space which is replacing the now demolished Newgate Shopping Centre.
Due to be completed in Spring 2016, the £100m mixed-use development will see the construction of 22,000 sq ft of retail and leisure space, along with a 575-bed student accommodation scheme and 269-bed hotel.
Property firm McAleer and Rushe acquired the two-acre site which housed the 1960s shopping centre back in 2006 for £18.2m and has already lined up Irish hotel operator, Dalata Hotel Group, for the UK’s first luxury Maldron hotel at the development.
Sanderson Weatherall appointment as letting agents builds on the work it has already carried out with the developers after it managed neighbourly matters with the 64 property owners which surround the development during last year’s demolition effort.
Mark Convery, retail agent at Sanderson Weatherall commented: “This is a fantastic opportunity for retail and leisure brands to become part of a landmark development in the heart of Newcastle City Centre.
“The units available range between 6,600 sq ft and 22,800 sq ft, and are located at ground and basement levels on Clayton Street and Newgate Street. Due to the highly prominent city centre location and high profile nature of this development, we expect there to be significant interest generated from the outset.”
