#TeamBroadway spins into action for local charity
As cycle-fever begins to sweep Bradford, The Broadway shopping centre has announced plans for a very special cycling fundraising event, taking place on April 29th and 30th.
While one of the UK’s biggest cycling events takes place outside, #TeamBroadway will be challenging local people to take part in their attempt to cycle 980km. To pull off this feat, there will be six exercise bikes in the centre from 11am until 5pm on both days, as well as a virtual screen which shows the distance travelled by everyone who has taken part, twice the distance the professional cyclists will cover that day.
Shoppers, visitors of Bradford, and anyone who wants to get stuck in to the spirit of the day are invited to have a go on the bikes and be a part of #TeamBroadway, whether they want to compete against a group of their friends or simply test their own fitness.
Funds will be raised over the weekend for The Broadway’s partner charity, Bradford Hospitals Children’s Charity, which The Broadway has committed to raising £10,000 for this year.
Every little bit will go towards #TeamBroadway smashing their target, but at the end of the weekend prizes will be given for the fastest Broadway retailer, the fastest man, and the fastest woman to race over the weekend.
Ian Ward, general manager of The Broadway, says: ‘You can already feel the excitement building in Bradford at the moment, everyone is thrilled that we’ve been chosen as a host city this year and we’ve organised this event at The Broadway to really celebrate the pride in our city and show our support for those taking part.
‘When the community comes together as #TeamBroadway on the 29th and 30th April, we’ll be able to smash the target we’ve set and also show support for a great cause, all while having a fun time with fellow supporters from across the region.
‘We’ve pledged to raise £10,000 for Bradford Hospitals Children’s Charity in 2017, and we’ll be collecting money for them throughout the entire weekend so they can continue providing specialist care to local families in their time of need. So anyone who gets involved isn’t just helping #TeamBroadway, but also doing their part for this important and life-saving local charity.’
Hayley Collis, fundraiser for Bradford Hospital Children’s Charity says: ‘We’re really proud to have teamed up with The Broadway this year, and I’m so excited to see the hard work that #TeamBroadway will be putting into making this event an unmissable one.
‘We’ll be there during the weekend collecting donations, all of which will go towards making the experience of babies, children and their families using our hospital as comfortable as possible by providing additional extras. These include innovative distraction toys and games, family-friendly waiting areas and additional medical equipment.
‘It looks set to be an incredible weekend for the entire city, and I can’t wait to see everyone get involved in #TeamBroadway’s attempt to smash their target.’
It’s free to be part of #TeamBroadway, although donations to the charity are encouraged.
