Children bury time capsule to celebrate new development
Somerset schoolchildren have played their own part in creating a piece of history in Temple Cloud by creating a time capsule for a new development in the village.
Year five and six pupils from Cameley Primary School chose a range of items including a local newspaper, school books and their own messages for the time capsule which is designed to be found again in 50 years’ time.
The time capsule has been buried at Cameley Primary School, to celebrate the new David Wilson Homes development which has just been launched.
Hannah Maggs, head teacher at Cameley Primary, said; “What a wonderful way to celebrate the growth in our community. The time capsule was a great project to get our pupils thinking about the local area and to leave something for future pupils and the wider community to enjoy.”
She went on to say, “Our pupils have really enjoyed making messages that might be read by the children who will be living at the new development, Knights Rise, in 50 years’ time.”
Louise Ware, sales director at David Wilson Homes said the project was part of the five star housebuilder’s commitment to working with the communities in which it is creating new homes.
“It was great to see the personal messages created by the children and the items they chose reflect life in 2017 perfectly,” she said. “We hope many of them will still be in the area when it is dug up in 2067.”
