Cash boost for Wakefield Community Awareness Programme

A Wakefield charity that helps the disadvantaged has received a £1,000 cash boost from a West Yorkshire housebuilder.

Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire has gifted the donation to the Community Awareness Programme (C.A.P.) as part of their Community Champions scheme.

The charity aims to change lives by providing a network of support to the homeless and marginalised within the Wakefield area.

As well as offering counselling support, the Community Awareness Programme helps feed and clothe up to 70 visitors to their centre, every day.

Elisabeth Hibbert, Co Founder/Trustee, said: “We’re extremely pleased that Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire has chosen to support us.

“The Community Awareness Programme exists so that we can make a real difference to the disadvantaged in Wakefield. We now have around 3,500 clients on our books, all of which have very different needs.

“After moving into a bigger premises, we have been able to up-scale the work we do in the area. However, despite a series of building renovations, we haven’t had the budget to make desperately needed plumbing repairs or to redecorate the toilet and shower areas.

“Persimmon’s donation will go a long way to making these much-needed repairs possible.”

The charity applied for funding through the Persimmon Homes Community Champions initiative. It is a national programme where charities and groups can apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match money they have already raised themselves.

Simon Whalley, sales director of Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire, said: “The Community Awareness Programme has been integral to helping those in need in the Wakefield area.

“After reading their application, we wanted to support the charity in any way we could. We have no doubts the building repairs will only improve conditions at the centre.

“We now want to hear from more clubs, groups and good causes as we look to allocate more funding over the next coming months. All we ask is that the group or charity has already worked hard to raise money themselves, and we will then match this effort with funding of up to £1,000.”
