Young professionals connect
Young professionals connect The first meeting of the Inter-Professional Chair’s Round Table took place recently at Knight Frank’s regional headquarters, Newcastle. “By bringing together young professionals from a broad range of disciplines we hope to learn from each other and get wider perspective on the issues facing us,” explains Puneet Vedhera. “The region is facing many challenges as is the UK as we all know. Our aim is to look at how we can integrate with each other though better networking, at the same time forming relationships to help strengthen our careers and the wider young professional community in the North East which we all recognise is an outstanding part of the UK to live and work in.” Michelle Fleming, Chair of Junior Lawyers Division North East (JLD), explained that she was very keen to become involved with other professionals in the region. “The JLD events are generally marketed at young lawyers only, we are keen to get our members networking with other professionals, rather than getting too comfortable only meeting other lawyers. Taking a step into the unknown can be beneficial to personal development and confidence.” Present in the initial, core group meeting were Matthew Worton (Young Professionals Forum), Eve Wilson (Generation for Change), Michelle Fleming (Junior Lawyers Division), Puneet Vedhera (RICS Matrics), Jack Brayford (Generation for Change) and Dominic Holding (Royal Town Planning Institute).
Absent were the Young Architectural Practitioners Forum (YAPF) , Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT), Chartered Institute of Highways and Transportations (CIHT), National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) and Institution of Chartered Engineers (ICE); who have all shown interest in actively becoming involved and supporting the initiative, which the core aim is to better connect the young professionals within the region.
