New residential development brings apartment complex to Hessle Road in Hull
A new apartment complex is due to open in Hull’s Hessle Road in the next few weeks.
The residential development sees the former Criterion pub and hotel transformed into 12 furnished apartments.
With work on the complex is nearly complete, the first tenants will be able to register for the self-contained, one-bedroom flats and studio apartments now.
Contractors Morriss Construction Ltd are currently renovating the site after developers acquired it in December 2015.
Adam Morriss, the managing director of Morriss Construction, said: “We’re delighted to be helping to renew this historic part of Hull. We’re also proud to be redeveloping such a prominent local landmark.
“This iconic corner building is vital to the look and feel of the area. And when you talk to folk around here, it’s clear that The Criterion still has an important place in many people’s hearts.
“Throughout the refurbishment, we’re carefully preserving the style of this listed building while also making sure that each of the new apartments provides the very highest modern standards.
“When the building opens to residents, they’ll find everything they need to feel instantly at home. All apartments are being fitted with cupboards and kitchen units as well as furnished with sofas, coffee tables and living room chairs.
“Residents can also enjoy complete peace of mind as the complex will be protected by an electronic fob system, security cameras and an experienced management team.”
Developer Lior Bibi explained: “We wanted to create apartments ready to be lived in. That’s why we’re equipping each property with all the facilities people need, including furniture, fridge, washing machine and dryer. Our welcome pack also includes cutlery, glasses and even bath towels.
“What’s more, all residents will receive free water rates. We’re even providing high-quality internet connectivity with free Wi-Fi in every apartment. The only thing people need to bring to feel perfectly at home is themselves.
“It’s about setting a new standard for rented accommodation in this part of Hull. And with everything you could need right on your doorstep, it’s a fantastic place to be. Hessle Road is booming with amenities, including restaurants, shops and bars.
“It offers easy access in and out of Hull and the town centre is just a seven-minute bus ride away. This really is the perfect location for professionals living and working in this area.”
The complex will also make room for retail space in the old barroom section of the building, adding to the growing number of businesses being established on Hessle Road.
Adam added: “There can be no doubt that this whole area is being transformed. Whether it’s the City of Culture effect or just potential finally being realised, Hessle Road is definitely on the up.
“While working in this part of West Hull, we’ve seen big companies moving in. Shops and businesses are being regenerated and restaurants refurbished.
“This renewal is a key part of that momentum and it makes sure that this landmark building isn’t replaced and lost forever.”
