Ethical fast food firm Friska chooses Manchester for first Northern venue

Ethical fast food company Friska has secured a location for its first Northern venue.

The Bristol-headquartered company signed a deal to move into Manchester Science Partnerships’ 70,000 sq ft Bright Building, which opens this summer at Manchester Science Park.

Entrepreneurs Griff Holland and Ed Brown, who founded Friska in 2009, have been looking for suitable site in the North for the last two years.

The company employs a team of 85 across eight venues in the South West and Midlands, with a site launching at Luton Airport this June.

Co-founder Ed Brown said: “Griff, I and the whole team are really privileged and excited to be the catering partner in the flagship building at Manchester Science Park.

“We cannot wait to bring our brand of fresh, interesting fast food to Manchester and help the MSP team fulfil their vision for the space as a collaborative meeting place for ideas and positive change in the North West.”

MSP’s managing director, Thomas Renn, commented: “Friska’s company philosophy and eclectic menu are a great fit for Manchester Science Park’s academics and sci-tech workers.

“We’re delighted they have chosen the Bright Building for their first Northern restaurant, and we’re pleased to help a new independent brand establish itself in the city.”

He continued: “As one of Europe’s most tech-enabled commercial buildings, and the nerve centre for digital innovation in the North, the Bright Building will act as a focal point for the thousands that work and study along Corridor Manchester.

“The opportunity this provides to retailers is obvious, and we’re confident that Friska’s breakfast and lunch offer will prove a success.”

The Bright Building will be the first new build at Manchester Science Park in over 15 years.
