Royal Ballet choreographer opens new studio at the Olympic Park
An award-winning choreographer who has even received recognition from the Queen for his work has opened up a new creative studio within the grounds of the Olympic Park.
Wayne McGregor CBE has opened his new studio, Studio Wayne McGregor, at Here East at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford after four years of preparatory work.
The artist, who is also resident choreographer at The Royal Ballet, has overseen the development of three dance studios, two of which are amongst the largest in London, which are now open following pro bono support from law firm Cripps.
Commenting following the opening of the new studio, which has been part-funded by Arts Council England, Jen McLachlan, capital project director at Studio Wayne McGregor, said: “As a small charity this was the largest project we had ever delivered and the first property negotiations we had ever undertaken.
“Despite complex negotiations with the developer, Cripps steered us calmly and efficiently, helping us secure the best possible legal position for our project.
“The launch of our new state-of-the-art studio benefits not only our company but also the wider cultural sector.”
Cripps partner, Kate Robinson, who led on the project as part of the law office’s real estate team, added: “It was a pleasure to be a part of this exciting initiative, representing Studio Wayne McGregor by negotiating all aspects of the lease.
“This included coming to an agreement to address the resonance issues that emanate from constructing three stacked dance studios within an existing multi-occupied building.”
