The Broadway cycles to success during fundraising weekend
The Broadway shopping centre is celebrating after raising more than £2,600 during a cycling fundraising event for Bradford Hospitals Children’s Charity over the weekend.
As hundreds of cyclists took part in one of the UK’s biggest cycling events of the year, #TeamBroadway asked shoppers and Bradford visitors to join them in their attempt to cycle 980km on April 29th and 30th.
Broadway employees and members of the public were invited to hop on six exercise bikes in the centre and help the team smash their target, while also raising money for The Broadway’s charity partner, Bradford Hospitals Children’s Charity. By 5pm on Sunday 30th April, #TeamBroadway had raised more than £2,600 and also broke their target of 980km, with 336 people helping them cycle 1158km altogether.
Alongside hundreds of fitness fanatics and competitive groups of friends, the Lord Mayor Councillor Geoff Reid also hopped on a bike on Saturday 29th April to contribute to #TeamBroadway’s distance travelled, showing his support for the event.
The £2,687 raised over the weekend will contribute to The Broadway’s plan to raise £10,000 for the charity throughout 2017, with more events planned to help them smash this target too.
Prizes were also awarded to the fastest man and woman to hop on a bike during the event, with both winners receiving a voucher for The Broadway.
Ian Ward, general manager of The Broadway, says: ‘The atmosphere at The Broadway and in Bradford was electric over the weekend, and I’m proud to say that #TeamBroadway went above and beyond their distance target on Saturday and Sunday.
’Everyone was really keen to get involved in the cycling spirit of the weekend, and we were really wowed by the Lord Mayor taking part and showing his support.
‘Not only did #TeamBroadway give the other cyclists a run for their money, they also helped us raise more than £2,600 for Bradford Hospitals Children’s Charity. We chose them as our official charity partner because of the invaluable work they do for so many families in the area, and this donation will go a long way to helping them continue providing specialist care to their patients.’
Hayley Collis, fundraiser for Bradford Hospital Children’s Charity says: ’We are incredibly grateful to The Broadway for choosing us as their partner charity and all their fundraising efforts too.
‘As the new Children’s Ward within the new hospital wing at Bradford is now open and in use, the fundraising will be used to provide all those special “little extras” which make a stay in hospital as comfortable as possible, as well as superb play, rest and therapy facilities.’
