Liverpool property firm Downing to launch £25m Edinburgh student scheme this summer
Downing Students, the student accommodation arm of Liverpool property firm Downing, is set to complete its first Edinburgh scheme in time for the city’s Fringe Festival.
The £25m New Park development will deliver 238 shared apartments and studios off Easter Road, near Leith.
Downing joint chief executive Ann Lodge said: “We’re delighted to be opening our first development in Edinburgh this summer.
“New Park is situated in an ideal location, close to the universities and right in the heart of this gorgeous, historic city, with many of the Scottish capital’s most popular visitor attractions within easy walking distance.”
Ahead of the festival, Downing has launched New Park Summer Stays to open the scheme up for guests visiting the Scottish capital during the month-long event.
An estimated 2m people attended Fringe in 2016.
Ann continued: “The opening of our latest development has come just in time for visitors attending the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August and we hope to welcome guests and provide them with a comfortable stay during their time in the city.”
Downing currently owns and operates more than 5,000 student beds over nine locations, including sites in London and Cambridge.
The company said it has a further 4,000 beds in the pipeline across the UK.
