Historic Sheffield manufacturer acquires larger premises with RBS funding
Ernest H Limited, the Sheffield-based pump manufacturer, has relocated to a brand new, purposely designed, premises in the city.
The company, which was originally established in 1841, acquired a new site on Longacre Way in Holbrook with funding from Royal Bank of Scotland.
The new premises, which are set amongst three acres of woodland and landscaped grounds, have been completely renovated and extended.
Designed by Malin Hewins from Watsons of Barnsley, the development work carried out has been done for the benefit of the firm’s employees. The company has extended the building and also built a new canteen and welfare area for its workforce.
In addition, an outdoor eating and BBQ area has also been built for use during warmer months and a nature trail has been created through the woodland on the three acre site.
Dominic Hewins, owner of Ernest H Hill Limited, said: “We have the most incredible and amazing team in place at Ernest H Hill and they are at the centre of everything we do.
“As well as needing more space to run our operation, our decision to move was also based upon our desire to invest in our surroundings to create a comfortable working environment for the team to enjoy.”
Entering its 176th year of trading, Ernest H Hill manufactures pumps, lubrication, garage and workshop equipment under the ‘Hill Pumps’ brand. The firm also produces pumps to charge air rifles under the ‘The Hill Air Pump’ brand.
Originally focussed on the domestic automotive market, Ernest H Hill has expanded its attentions during the last 20 years, focussing on a broader range of industries such as aviation, agricultural, industrial and leisure.
Today, around 70% of the company’s activities are carried out internationally compared with only 30% in 1997.
Funding for the acquisition and development of the new premises has been supported by a deal with Royal Bank of Scotland represented by Daniel Jacklin. Lombard, the bank’s asset finance arm has also provided funding for new machinery represented by Natalie Morris.
Dominic Hewins continued: “We are thrilled with our new premises and are looking forward to this next chapter in our company’s history. For the last 20 years we have operated from a rented site at Meadowbrook Park but had begun to outgrow the facility.
“Purchasing our own premises and making an investment into our own property has always been the next step and I am pleased that thanks to our hard work and the support we have received from Royal Bank of Scotland we have been able to achieve our ambitions.”
Daniel Jacklin, Relationship Director at Royal Bank of Scotland, added: “We are delighted that we have been able to support the team at Ernest H Hill with funding for the new premises.
“The team has created a first class facility that not only meets production requirements but is enjoyable for its workforce.”
