Hull care home opens up to local community

A Hull care home hosted an open wellbeing day to support the care and inclusion of older people in the community.

Visitors to Wilton Lodge care home, which is operated by the Hica Group, had the opportunity to take part in specialist gentle exercise classes for older people and those with dementia. The care home staff were also on hand to offer expert advice on care and nutrition to visitors.

The exercise sessions which were available to visitors at the open day are designed by OOMPH!, the UK’s largest provider of activities and exercise training to the care sector. The home also includes OOMPH! exercise sessions as a regular fixture in its activity programme.

Hica Group chief executive, Penni Brown, said: “We enjoyed opening the doors of Wilton Lodge and welcoming the local community while showcasing the excellent home and activity programme.

“By using expertise and knowledge we want to support and inspire the community with an example of how to best care for older people and those with dementia.

“We strongly believe that activities like the OOMPH! sessions support good physical and psychological health and wellbeing in older people. It is important our residents spend their time as they choose, so we have a dedicated activity and wellbeing lead who creates person centred activities, which include rekindling old past times and presenting opportunities to try new things.”

Friends of the home from the local ‘knit and natter’ group, which regularly meet at the local Saint Columbus Church, attended the activities for the day. Staff also offered outdoor activities running in the garden area and within the gazebo.
