Stockton's EnAppSys plotting Euro expansion with new Netherlands base

Energy data monitoring company EnAppSys is looking to forge a path into continental Europe after opening its first office outside of the UK.

The Stockton-on-Tees-based business has just opened an office in Zeeland, Netherlands, after increasing headcount and growing turnover to seven-figures from its Stockton base at Preston Farm Business Park.

Its cloud-based monitoring platform provides energy market monitoring to power stations, suppliers and traders, as well as providing market consultancy and modelling services to the wider industry.

According to EnAppSys, it has already developed a product for the Dutch power market which it hopes will support the first phase of its ambitious expansion ambitions, with plans to spread further across the continent.

Paul Verrill, Director of EnAppSys, said that the move comes after the business has grown its European customer base in recent years and looks to capitalise on the growing interconnectivity between the various power markets in Europe.

He commented: “In recent months and years, we have built up our mainland Europe customer base and we are expecting that the Netherlands will be the next key growth market for us. This expansion comes as information about bordering European markets becomes key to understanding the British power market.

“As a company operating in the power markets, we get asked on a regular basis about the potential implications of Brexit but increased renewable energy penetration has meant that power markets have become more rather than less integrated; requiring greater rather than less integration from companies operating in these markets.”

Heading up the new office is Jean-Paul Harreman, who is described as an expert on the Dutch power market, having held positions in energy, finance and accounting over the last two decades.

He believes that Europe will remain an important export market for UK companies despite Brexit, particularly in the energy sector where market forces are pushing the industry towards ever greater European integration.

He said: “Whatever role Britain has in the wider European market, companies like ours are showing that export strategies can be effective both via our software services and via our softer consultancy services.

“We expect that we are one of many success stories of small British companies expanding into Europe and believe that this success is driving employment and wealth generation within our native business sector.

“However Brexit manifests itself, as a growing and thriving company we would hope that opportunities for success remain for businesses such as ours, and that these companies are given the freedom to continue their success on a wider platform.”
