John Pye up for two top property awards

THE HEAD of property at John Pye Property Auctions has been nominated for a ‘Rising Star’ accolade at this year’s Propertymark Awards for his part in helping to grow the firm’s unique online property auctions.

Propertymark is the industry body which works to raise professional standards among property organisations. Its annual awards mark excellence in the property industry.

Richard Reed MRICS MNAVA joined the business in 2013 at just 26-years-old and worked alongside directors to deliver the UK’s first ever online property auctions offering a legally binding contract at the fall of the virtual hammer.

The auctions started in 2014 as quarterly events. Today, John Pye holds property auctions every three weeks, with over 500 properties anticipated to be offered for sale throughout 2017.

Richard said: “After leaving university, I worked as a qualified chartered surveyor for a small practice. John Pye asked me to join the team and challenged me with setting up a new property division for the business.

“I jumped at the opportunity, and although the move was daunting, the team at John Pye were a great support. After 12 months of research and development with lawyers and IT specialists, we finally launched our first online property auction in September 2014 with 16 lots totalling just £2.6m.

“Since then, the property division has grown exponentially and the team has now offered over £125m of properties through our online property auction. What is truly unique is that not one seller has ever paid a fee for selling their property through John Pye Property.

“The team has more than doubled in size over the last 12 months, and we now work for banks, LPA Receivers, insolvency practitioners, landlords, investors and owner occupiers.

“In addition to auctions, the John Pye Property department provides additional services; residential and commercial agency, property management, maintenance and security, appraisals and valuations, luxury property and overseas property.”

Richard also created the John Pye Luxury Property brand, which sells real estate in central London and other desirable areas across the UK.

Richard said: “We have a stunning facility located in Old Bond Street, Mayfair, which we acquired primarily to service the John Pye Luxury Assets department. It has provided us with a phenomenal premise to trade from. As such, we decided to launch a luxury property brand.

“Currently, we have in excess of £130m of ‘off market’ luxury properties and developments for sale. All transactions are undertaken in private and we are developing our international contacts all of the time.”

John Pye Property has also been shortlisted for the ‘Employer Champion of the Year’ Propertymark for the way it actively encourages its employees to take on industry related training.

The awards will be held on Friday (12 May) at Le Meridien Piccadilly in London, bringing together professionals from the property sector to recognise the achievements of individuals and employers who have undertaken a Propertymark qualification and other industry related qualifications in the last year.

Adam Pye, managing director of John Pye Auctions, said: “We’re thrilled to have been nominated for Employer Champion of the Year.

“As a business, we believe that having knowledgeable staff creates a confident working atmosphere; one in which all team members will feel they have a valid contribution towards the company’s goals.

“It has also meant we have a greater staff retention which in turn provides a consistently high level of customer service to our clients and customers.

“We’re also thrilled to see Richard nominated as this is testament to his hard work developing the John Pye Property brand.”
