Finance job listings increased before Brexit was triggered
Job search data shows 6% year-on-year increase in listed finance jobs in lead-up to triggering of Article 50
- New data released by Jobrapido reveals that jobs listed in the finance category increased by 6% year-on-year, from 89,654 in 2016 to 95,157 in 2017
- The findings contradict the sense of foreboding that many discussions on the financial sector have featured in the last year, showing the resilience of basic financial roles
London – May 3, 2017. Data from the world’s leading job search engine Jobrapido shows that in the year leading up to March 29 and the triggering of Article 50 - formally starting the UK’s withdrawal from the European Union - jobs listed in the finance category increased by 6%, from 89,654 in 2016 to 95,157 in 2017.
The data comes from Innovantage, Jobrapido’s analytics arm, who also reported a counter-intuitive spike in job postings after the EU referendum vote on June 23 last year, registering 50,000 new job postings the week after the referendum result - a 2.74% increase on the 1.8m existing job postings the week before.
The findings contradict the sense of foreboding that many discussions on the financial sector have featured in the last year. Though of course the formal negotiation process may result in changes that alter the desirability of the UK in this area, it appears that at the moment the demand for financial expertise is undiminished.
London’s role as a financial centre has been a central part of the debate around the EU referendum vote, and the City will be keeping a close eye on negotiations.
Rob Brouwer, CEO of Jobrapido, said: “In a changing jobs market it’s important to make intelligent and extended job searches to get the real picture. The discussion around the prospects of some industries can often get confusing, and simply checking the volume of listed jobs can quickly give you a better idea of what’s out there.
Innovantage have been using real-time market data since 2011, and because we analyse and aggregate job listings from all over the web, we can get a big-picture clear view of what’s popular at any given time.“
The top five job titles listed in the search data are: Accounts Assistant, Management Accountant, Finance Manager, Credit Controller and Financial Controller. The top twenty most common finance related job posting on jobrapido.com suggest that these core financial management roles remain in demand, despite wider uncertainties.
