Construction complete on new £1.7m restaurant and bar at MediaCityUK
Boutique construction firm Artez Group has completed work on The Bund, a new space for bar and restaurant brand The Alchemist in Salford.
The £1.7m scheme, located on the bridge linking MediaCityUK with The Lowry, features a gold-clad roof and walls with a terrace projecting out over the canal.
The next phase of the project will see leisure operator Living Ventures transform the site into a 100-cover dining venue.
Guests were invited on Friday (May 15) for a sneak preview of the site before it is handed over to Living Ventures.
Artez’ managing director, Mike Banton, said: “The design and concept for the building by Reid Architects was stunning and I think it’s safe to say the execution does it justice.
“It’s like a palatial, golden spaceship has landed in Salford Quays!”
MediaCityUK MD Stephen Wild commented: “This is an iconic, statement building which makes the most of its stunning location, overlooking the MediaCityUK waterfront.
“As the landscape here continues to evolve, The Alchemist will bring a stylish food and drink offer to the mix, adding to the vibrant destination we are creating.”
Simon Potts, MD at The Alchemist, said: “When plans were first created for this site, it was immediately apparent the building would make a bold statement and this most certainly is the case.
“We’re delighted to now begin transforming the interior into a welcoming and vibrant space for all who visit MediaCityUK.”
The Bund was designed by Manchester-based Reid Architects.
Salford City Mayor Paul Dennett said of the development: “Salford’s food and drink offer continues to grow and develop within the city and I welcome the latest bar and restaurant at MediaCityUK.
“The Alchemist’s decision to make Salford their latest home naturally makes a contribution to Salford Quays and our local labour market, creating even more jobs for local people.”
The Alchemist will open its doors at MediaCityUK in August 2017.
