Run-down Georgian homes in Liverpool to be restored
Merseyside developer Elliot Group has submitted plans for the restoration of a Georgian terraced building in Liverpool.
Located in the Canning conservation area, the nine run-down townhouses have lain empty since 2008 when they were occupied as bedsits.
Elliot Group acquired the homes, which form an L-shape along Upper Parliament Street and Percy Street, earlier this year from Liverpool City Council.
The final value of the development is expected to be £3.2m.
Elliot Lawless, of Elliot Group, said: “There’s pent-up demand for homeownership in Canning and for more family homes, too.
“New infrastructure such as LIPA’s primary school is broadening Canning’s appeal as a place to live and it will be a pleasure to see the houses restored to family homes.”
The Grade II-listed properties sit in a conservation area, which imposes strict rules on any refurbishment work, Elliot explained.
He continued: “The rules relate to the exteriors, but our planning application has addressed what’s salvageable inside. Clearly, we need to create family homes fit for today’s needs and it’s been an enjoyable challenge for our architects balancing the two requirements.
“Most of the Georgian features were ripped out when the houses were converted to bedsits so we’ll be looking to reinstate some of the original grace and style that makes these properties so appealing.”
Subject to planning consent, the first of the homes are due to be ready in Spring 2018.
