Don't miss Ouseburn Early this Friday

The place to be this Friday night (19 May) is Ouseburn for a host of live music and arts with the return of increasingly popular The Late Shows - winner of Best Event Tyneside at the Journal Culture Awards last Thursday.

This Friday is Ouseburn Early and Hoults Yard will be opening its doors so people can explore behind the scenes to see what the former pottery has been transformed into, as well as enjoying a talent showcase in its fantastic venue – The Clayshed.

The free event which runs from 7-11pm will include pop up stalls from, Cinders Gowns & Tailoring, and Ian Horn. Performances include concert pianist Rob Brockway and live music from ambient duo Beamship. Artist Deborah Snell working with Jim Bell and Fiona Birkbeck of Multiminded Digital have also created a wonderful and eerie piece for the evening. There’ll also be street food – tasty sweet & savoury crepes from Elodie and a cash bar.

Commenting Charlie Hoult said: “The Late Shows are a fantastic idea to encourage more people to do something cultural with their evening and they’re free to enjoy. This weekend there are 16 free events in the Ouseburn Valley.

“The past events at Hoults Yard have been a huge success as people love exploring the behind the scenes of the Maling Pottery to see the thriving venue it has become. We’re expecting a couple of thousand people again so there’ll be a great buzz about the place.”

Put together by Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums and supported by the Port of Tyne and Sofa Workshop, The Late Shows are an after-hours culture crawl and this will be its 11th year running.

Contrary to published material, Hoults Yard will only be open on the Ouseburn Friday, not on Saturday as stated in the event brochure.

The Late Shows began in 2007 and have now more than quintupled in size. In the first year, 14 venues took part, rising to more than 70 in 2016. Venues at last year’s Late Shows recorded over 40,000 visits across the weekend.
