The Golden Fleece in Thirsk set to reopen following £1m transformation

The Golden Fleece Hotel in Thirsk is set to reopen on Friday (19th May) following a £1m refurbishment.

Dating back nearly 400 years, the Golden Fleece has been closed for twelve weeks in order to undergo the refurbishment, which has included a complete renovation of its restaurant, bar and accommodation.

The hotel, which was acquired in October 2015 by the Coaching Inn Group, reopens this Friday and will be introducing its new Eatery & Coffee House concept.

This includes a new all-day menu featuring sharers, locally-sourced produce and a new hot and cold drinks offering.

Key to the refurbishment has also been the introduction of a completely new outside dining area complete with a pizza oven, which will serve a selection of handmade pizzas throughout the week.

Neil Doogan, hotel manager, said: “The aim of the work was to give this historic coaching inn a new lease of life, whilst maintaining its Georgian architecture. We’re delighted with the outcome and can’t wait to show off our fresh new look and introduce our new Eatery and Coffee House to the local community.

“The Golden Fleece benefits from its fantastic position right in the heart of the town and we hope we continue to be known as the go-to-place in Thirsk for family-friendly, relaxed all day dining for locals and visitors alike.”

As part of the Coaching Inn Group’s £20m expansion programme, the Golden Fleece has benefitted from structural repairs and a refurbishment, as well as the recruitment of 30 additional new staff members.

The Coaching Inn Group, which operates 13 hotels in Yorkshire, Leicester, Lincolnshire, Northampton, Gloucestershire and Wales, aims to double the size of its estate by 2019.
