Europa Sets International Standards

Ambitious logistics provider, Europa Worldwide Group, is setting the pace for outstanding health and safety standards in logistics after achieving an international standard, awarded by the British Standards Institute (BSI).

The £100m turnover business, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, has been recognized with the BS OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety Management accreditation to fulfil one of its core company values; to “work safely and responsibly”.

BS OHSAS 18001 is a British framework for occupational health and safety management, enabling organisations to put the right policies, procedures and controls in place to create the best possible working conditions.

This latest accolade follows a recent investment of £25,000 and more than 560 business hours (75 days) in health and safety training for 25 members of Europa’s senior team across its 11 UK sites.

HR and Facilities Director at Europa Carl Potter said the aim of the accreditation was to further build upon Europa’s position as a trailblazer in health and safety standards in the logistics industry.

Carl said: “Our goal is to be recognised as an international leader in health and safety standards and ensure that every member of the whole team across all our facilities understands the importance that it holds. This standard demonstrates our commitment to protecting employees, customers, visitors, contractors and the public during the course of our business activities.

“The Occupational Health and Safety Management System specification is a benchmark of excellence and could have only been achieved by embedding this within our management culture since we introduced our values two years ago.”

He continued: “We have invested a lot of hard work into our health and safety compliance management system, even working with consultants, Inspire International UK Ltd, to ensure we are achieving the highest standards possible. This accreditation is an incredible achievement for the whole team and another positive step towards demonstrating our commitment to guaranteeing the safest possible working environment.”
