London City Airport's new partnership could see it adding hundreds of extra routes

London City Airport has announced it has entered into an agreement with air taxi firm GlobeAir that could see it dramatically increase its number of business routes to Europe and North Africa.

The London airport’s agreement with the private jet business will mean business travellers will soon be able to take advantage of new air taxi routes on GlobeAir’s private chartered fleet of Citation Mustang jets, connecting travellers to over 1,500 airports across Europe and North Africa.

Its smaller jets will also open up more obscure and regional airports across the continent, including those with smaller runways that are unable to support commercial airliners.

The agreement comes as LCY embarks on an ambitious expansion drive which includes £350m improvement works and targets 6.5m passengers by 2021.

Nick Rose, who is Director of Business Aviation at LCY, commented: “We have ambitious growth plans and a key part of this is to attract more business aircraft. We offer business travellers unparalleled access to London and unbeatable convenience and speed.

“GlobeAir is one of the biggest business aviation operators in Europe and we are delighted that they will now be offering clients the opportunity to land and depart from our airport.”

With the airport’s key selling point being its central London location, LCY has set about attracting more business travellers to its services who can be whisked to Canary Wharf and beyond from the nearby DLR station.

For GlobeAir, the deal marks a renewed push into the London market where total departures have grown by just over a third in recent years.

Bernhard Fragner, Chief Executive of GlobeAir, said that the capital, as the German firm’s second biggest market, held enormous potential for the private jet company.

He commented: “In 2016 we operated 492 departures from London-based airports and the corresponding figure for 2015 is 368, which shows an increase of 34 per cent.”

“By offering our clients the opportunity to use London City Airport, we expect to see further significant growth in our London-based business.”
