Software eCommerce firm Paddle has merged with a California software company
London-based startup Paddle, which provides software developers with a means to sell their apps and software globally, has completed a merger with software development and distribution toolkit DevMate.
The merger, which will see DevMate operating under the Paddle banner, has been agreed for an undisclosed sum and will help to grow out Paddle’s platform and services.
Founded in 2012 by serial entrepreneur Christian Owens, the company helps developers to monetise and distribute their software to a global audience by handling everything from global sales tax to payment options and marketing analytics through its platform.
DevMate on the other hand was developed by California-based software developer MacPaw, and was initially deployed internally as a user-friendly way for the business to handle tasks such as software licensing, crash reports and customer data analytics.
Combined, Paddle claims the two firms will create a ‘world class’ e-commerce and development platform for software, providing frictionless global payments alongside analytics and crash reporting.
Owens, Paddles Founder and Chief Executive Officer, said the merger was another step on the road to the firm becoming the ‘number one’ platform for software developers looking to grow their businesses.
He added: “We have admired DevMate since it launched; it adds crash reporting and additional incredible analytics to our platform and considerably improves our licensing and release management capabilities.”
As part of the agreement, MacPaw’s Founder and Chief Executive, Oleksandr Kosovan, will join Paddle’s Board, and the founder commented that he was looking forward to helping the newly combined entity realise its ambitions.
He said: “DevMate is the best tool for software developers to develop and distribute software - the only piece of the software lifecycle it didn’t cover was checkout and payments.
“Paddle is the most innovative e-commerce solution out there for software businesses, so for me this deal was obvious. I am thrilled to be joining the Paddle Board and helping the team as it continues to grow.”
Paddle will continue to support and develop DevMate over the coming months and years with the business being run out of its London office, as it continues to grow its reputation in the sector.
The business currently has over 500 customers, with MacPaw being one of them, and last year closed a $3.4m Series A funding round led by BGF Ventures with participation from Kindred Capital.
