New homes delivered for Wakefield as Wates hands over £2.1m South Elmsall scheme

Property developer Wates Residential has handed over 21 new homes to Together Housing Group in South Elmsall.

This marks the completion of the £2.1m second phase of the housing association’s Gordon Place scheme at Westfield Lane.

The scheme’s second phase now joins the additional 45 new homes Wates delivered under the £10.3m first phase of Gordon Place alongside Frickley Mews, a 67-apartment Extra Care scheme designed for over 50s with an assessed need for care and support.

The second phase of Gordon Place has brought the overall project supply chain spend to a total of £5.8m. The two phases of Gordon Place have supported 13 project apprentices, eight educational workshops and two structured work placements.

Wates has also donated a total of £11,000 to local good causes throughout the work.

Completion of phase two comes less than one year after building work commenced on site, which was marked with a voluntary project by Wates Residential to carry out landscaping work in the new residents’ courtyard at Frickley Mews.

Joanne Jamieson, managing director of Wates Residential, commented: “We began work on the first phase of Gordon Place just three years ago and to see what has been achieved in the time since has given the team a huge sense of achievement.

“Innovative building solutions, including a number of off-site manufactured elements, twinned with our extensive expertise have maximised build efficiency ensuring that we brought these much-needed new homes to South Elmsall on schedule.

“As important as the new homes have been the opportunities that this housing investment has created for the community. By working in partnership with Together Housing, we have made it possible for local people to learn, train and work at this fantastic new development and in doing so we have ensured that its positive effects are felt long after we have left site.”

Hilary Brady, head of development at Together Housing Group, added: “I’m absolutely delighted to see the completion of more new homes in South Elmsall. The 21 new homes provide further new quality accommodation to our existing scheme already at Westfield Lane.

“Over the past few years South Elmsall has seen major transformation with a number of new developments offering a variety of products for prospective home owners and renters alike.

“Together Housing Group really value our partnership with Wates, Wakefield Council and the Homes and Communities Agency which has enabled us to deliver our new homes.”
