Wrexham-based video production agency helps civil engineering firm stay safe

A Wrexham-based video production agency is helping a civil engineering firm stay at the forefront of site safety across the UK.

Knew Productions has filmed and edited a series of educational safety videos for Jones Bros Civil Engineering’s 300 staff.

The UK-based civil engineering company, headquartered in Ruthin, has implemented a comprehensive safety culture programme to keep its employees and sub-contractors safe on site

The Together Safer programme is a company-wide initiative which has involved consultation with teams from sites as well as at its head office. And Jones Bros engaged Knew Productions to assist with communicating changes and best practices via video.

Mike Mowbray, health and safety manager at Jones Bros, said: “We have a good track record for preventing injuries relating to the operation of plant and machinery on our construction sites.

“The operation of heavy plant and machinery is a potentially hazardous activity and we are aware of a number of injuries and fatalities across the industry as a direct result of people and plant interface incidents.

“We therefore continue to strive for improvement in our approach to ensure that all members of our team, including visitors and clients, are safe on site and we put steps in place to make sure it happens.

“The six videos focus on people and plant and how they interface, and they demonstrate safe means of accessing items of plant by following simple but effective rules.

“We worked with our joint venture partner Balfour Beatty on a live site at the Clyde Extension Wind Farm in Scotland.

“We wanted a consistent message that was simple to understand and Knew Productions has delivered this perfectly.

“Richard Knew and his team have extensive experience in producing safety videos and this was a key factor in choosing them.”

Managing director of Knew Productions Richard Knew said: “Video is a fantastic medium to deliver key messages with impact

“It is ideal for health and safety and helps businesses to keep employees safe by engaging viewers to take note of key learnings and best practices.

“We were filming on site at the wind farm for two days and it was clear that Jones Bros holds health and safety in high regard.

“Working closely with organisations to prevent injuries and fatalities is an area we particularly keen on, as our videos make a big difference.”

Knew Productions has been established for 21 years and has worked with a variety of organisations on health and safety including Castle Cement, Hexion, Bocm Pauls and Denbighshire County Council For more information and to watch examples of their work, visit www.knewproductions.co.uk.
