Local business sets ‘Dementia Friend’ Recruitment Record in Leeds, Sheffield and Manchester

Local Care Force, which has offices in Sheffield, Leeds and Manchester, has recruited a record number of people to become dementia friends to help people with the condition. The company appealed to people to sign up as volunteer dementia friends during Dementia Awareness Week and has successfully recruited over 150 people across the North. The record comes as political parties announce policies in relation to the condition.

In a bid to combat the disease, Local Care Force is now providing training to equip volunteers with the knowledge needed to help people with dementia feel supported and involved in their communities.

The family-run business, which specialises in training and developing social and healthcare workers, is committed to uniting against dementia with the support of the Alzheimer’s Society.

Leanne Silverwood, Director and owner of Local Care Force LLP, said: “It is reassuring to see each of the political parties putting mental health high up on the agenda, as a lot of work needs to be done to improve the lives of those suffering with mental health issues. We wanted to recruit a record number of dementia friends during Dementia Awareness Week to improve the quality of lives of people living with dementia, and it will continue throughout the year.”

Founded by Yorkshire entrepreneur Leanne Silverwood in 2004, Local Care Force provides temporary and permanent agency staffing to large private, public and charitable organisations. The organisation also joined forces with care homes across the country this week and hosted 1940s reminiscence concerts for residents with dementia.
