Cathay Pacific prepares for extra Manchester flights with new ‘state-of-the-art’ aircraft

Asian airline Cathay Pacific is expanding its services between Manchester Airport and Hong Kong.

From June 2, the carrier will introduce an additional weekly flight, making the North West’s only non-stop route to Hong Kong a five-times-weekly service.

Cathay Pacific said the route will be operated with its new Airbus A350-900 aircraft, which will replace the Boeing 777-300ER.

The service will become a daily route from December this year.

Paul Cruttenden, the airline’s marketing and digital sales manager in the UK, said: “We are delighted to be introducing our state-of-the-art A350-900 aircraft to our popular Manchester route whilst upping the frequency to five times weekly.

“This demonstrates Cathay Pacific’s commitment to offering increased convenience and superior in-flight products for our customers travelling to Hong Kong from the North West region.”

He continued: “Furthermore, the brand new aircraft provides even more reasons to choose Cathay Pacific and enjoy a life truly well-travelled.

“The enhanced schedule provides business and leisure travellers in the North West with more choice and greater flexibility in planning their trips.”

Manchester Airport’s commercial director, Stephen Turner, commented: “It is incredibly pleasing to see Cathay Pacific upgrade its aircraft to the A350. This ultra-modern and efficient aircraft is a clear commitment to providing the best service to passengers from the North.

“In just a few years the Hong Kong route is performing extremely positively and allows the 22m people in our catchment area easy, direct access to Hong Kong and beyond.”

He added: “It continues to unlock economic opportunities and trade between the two regions and I am sure the newer aircraft and additional frequency will be welcomed by business and leisure passengers alike.”
