ECO-FRIENDLY HOMES PROVE A ‘GREEN’ SUCCESS STORY FOR LEEDS FIRMS

IT’S “green for go” for two Leeds firms who have teamed up to create an eco-friendly collection of new family homes in the north east of city – marketed through Linley & Simpson.

Adel-based developers Shellbourne Properties and Solec Energy Solutions, headquartered in Headingley, have brought a brownfield site in Swarcliffe to life with a collection of four new homes.

It features three three-bedroomed townhouses on Langbar Mews, and one four-bedroomed detached house on nearby Langbar Road.

They are all designed with both the environment and buyers’ budgets in mind, each home boasting a raft of energy-saving initiatives - spearheaded by solar power.

“We are installing a sleek solar PV system to each of the townhouses,” said Steve Hyde of Shellbourne Properties.

“These are designed to create significant savings to energy bills – potentially up to 40 per cent a year. Over and above this, the solar panel system will also benefit homeowners through the Feed In Tariff scheme, where they may earn a tax-free income for 20 years for every kilowatt produced.

“This eco-efficiency also extends to the detached house, which will feature an air source heat pumps rather than conventional gas or oil to help accumulate even higher savings for the owners.”

And, according to the Roundhay, Leeds, branch of selling agents, Linley & Simpson, this green dimension is increasingly acting as a magnet for homebuyers keen to go back to nature – with one of the mews properties already sold.

Ranging in price from £172,500 to £245,000, they are all available to purchase with support from the Government’s Help to Buy scheme. This initiative has proved more popular in Yorkshire over the past year than anywhere else in the UK in opening the door to home ownership.
