Top industry position is set in stone for Stephen
Stephen Lumsdon, commercial manager at award winning roofing and building contractor Hodgson Sayers, has been appointed junior vice president of the National Federation of Builders (NFB) Northern Region Association in the North East.
Hodgson Sayers has a long standing relationship with the NFB, which is the construction industry’s largest established trade body, representing small to medium-sized contractors and house builders across England and Wales.
In his role, Stephen will support the development of the sector within the North East.
Stephen, said: “I joined Hodgson Sayers at the beginning of 2017 and as part of my role as commercial manager I wanted to take the opportunity to challenge myself and to step out into the wider business community to promote and support topical issues and opportunities within the sector.
“At Hodgson Sayers we pride ourselves on tackling a range of industry subjects such as the skills gap through our pledge of ensuring that 10% of our workforce is comprised of apprentices.
“This is one of the critical subjects I want to raise and debate and to assess the solutions that other companies are putting forward which we can all share and learn from. It is crucial that everyone within the industry plays their role in supporting the next generation of workers.
“As part of the committee, I will also be involved in attracting guest speakers from framework providers who are able to share knowledge and support the SME market in the North East.”
David Todd, NFB North East area manager, said: “Hodgson Sayers has been a key NFB member for many years. Stephen’s acceptance of the junior vice president position shows his and the company’s continued commitment to helping shape the construction industry, and to address the skills shortage in the North East for the future.”

2015 was an outstanding year for the company having won three national awards. The first being the SME award at the Constructing Excellence Awards in London. This was followed by UK Business of the Year and the People Development Award at the British Chambers of Commerce Awards.
