Why Lee is running for a life-saving Yorkshire charity

Lee has spent a lot of his life running – from the police and from himself. Now he is running to raise funds for the charity which has turned his life around.

He is part of a dedicated team who are competing in the Hull 10K race on Sunday June 18 to raise funds for The Bridges in Hull, the residential drug and alcohol treatment centre run by RAPt (the Rehabilitation for Addicted Prisoners Trust).

Lee, a former Bridges resident, explained: “My motivation to run the Hull 10k is to support RAPt because I’m passionate about the work they do and I want to give something back.

“I did a lot of running around in my years of addiction, running to get my drugs, running from the police, running from myself. Self-care and wellbeing were non-existent. I didn’t care that I was undernourished.

“Recovery has taught me about looking after myself physically and mentally, and exercise is all part of that. It’s particularly important for people like me who have lived a life of addiction. It’s all about balance.

“I’m confident I can do this run and I’m up for the challenge. If there’s anything I can do to support RAPt, I’m in. It’s a life-saving charity.”

On June 18, staff from RAPt are joining former residents from The Bridges to run the Hull 10k to raise money for others who need The Bridges.

Long-time supporter Bridges supporter Charlie Forbes Adam will join RAPt staff Lynn Selby, Jason Moore and Douglas Dunsmore Dawson and former Bridges residents Nick, Lee, Bal and Andy to line up for the 8th annual10k race.

The team are looking to raise £1,500 to support more people at the Bridges to break the cycle of addiction and crime. Find out more about how you can support them by donating at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/TeamRAPtTheBridges

The Hull 10K takes in the best that this historic maritime city has to offer, including the stunning marina and the ancient ‘old town’. The race is hugely popular and one of the area’s biggest fundraisers.

“We are delighted that the team are raising these vital funds to support those who need The Bridges. It’s wonderful to see former residents join our staff, united in the goal of helping others,” said David Bernstein, Chair of Trustees of RAPt.
