Apartments offer city retreat for the over 55s
Apartment living in Gateshead may be popular amongst young people setting off on the property ladder but it also offers great flexibility for the over-55s, claims a leading builder.
Persimmon Homes North East has built a range of apartments in the vibrant city where people can enjoy all the convenience of living close to local stores, restaurants, boutiques and leisure facilities.
Marketed under the William Leech brand the 63-home scheme at St James’ Court comprises a collection of one and two-bedroom apartments.
Debbie Zaben, sales and marketing director for Persimmon Homes North East, said: “We are getting a lot of interest in these apartments from people who have retired or are planning for their retirement as well as investors, and it is easy to see why.
“The issues that matter to people in their 50s and 60s are very different from those that affect young families or those in their 80s. They are interested in financial planning for the future and releasing capital accrued over the years, improved security and reducing the hassle of maintenance.”
Facilities at St James’ Court include a concierge service, communal garden room, functions lounge with catering facilities, entry-phone system, security alarm to each apartment and lift service to all floors. A management company is also be employed to offer 24-hour assistance to home owners.
Debbie added: “We can offer people advice on the various schemes available to help buyers, but these apartments, which start from £87,950, are appealing to downsizers who want to release capital and make their retirement more secure.”
