Cash boost for good causes across Swindon
A programme set-up to engage all areas of the community and a charity that supports unpaid carers are the latest good causes in Swindon to receive funding.
Swindon Cares and Swindon Carers Centre have each received donations as part of the Persimmon Homes Wessex Community Champions scheme.
The national match-funding programme seeks to support groups and charities working to improve the quality of life or environment for local people.
Pauline Fletcher, sales and marketing director for Persimmon Homes Wessex, said: “This month we are delighted to be helping two worthwhile causes. Both are a valued and vital part of their communities, and for that reason we are more than happy to be supporting these organisations.”
Swindon Cares is represented by a number of businesses and media to support people in Swindon. The £750 donated by Persimmon Homes will go to support the organisation’s two nominated charities – ‘Swindon Women’s Aid’ and ‘The Nelson Trust’.
Swindon Carers Centre is a charity that supports unpaid carers from the age of five. A £1,000 donation from Persimmon Homes will give 15 young carers the opportunity to attend a weekend Salamander Course with Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Service. This course will help young carers improve their confidence, self esteem and make new friends.
Fiona Prinzi, a director of service development for Swindon Carers Centre, said: “We are delighted to be the recipient of the generous donation from Persimmon Homes Wessex. Young carers tell us they want to be recognised, valued and supported for their caring roles and just need to have a break sometimes.”
The Mayor of Swindon, Councillor Maureen Penny was delighted when she heard that Alan Holmes, of Holmes Music in Swindon, had applied for a grant for her chosen Charity ‘Swindon Cares’. She said: “On behalf of my charity, I would like to thank Persimmon Homes Wessex for the wonderful work they do helping local charities under their Community Champions scheme”.
