Premier Inn to create 45 jobs at new Headingley development
Clegg Construction is on course to deliver a new multi-million pound Premier Inn hotel in at the Arndale Centre in Headingley, Leeds.
The company, which has its headquarters in Nottingham, is the main contractor for the £6.2m scheme.
The contract on behalf of Schroder Real Estate Investment Trust (SREIT) involves the redevelopment of Arndale House, which is a 1960’s vacant office block comprising 4,000 sq ms over nine storeys.
Work started in October 2016 to provide 96 en-suite bedrooms, reception and lobby area, restaurant and kitchen, alongside associated parking. The Premier Inn will open for business in the first quarter of 2018.
Premier Inn has confirmed 45 jobs will be created.
The hotel is situated close to Headingley Stadium, University of Leeds and Leeds Becket University.
Simon Blackburn, Clegg Construction’s managing director, said: “We are very familiar with the Arndale Centre after completing £1m of work there in recent times.
“The scheme is progressing well and highlights our expertise within the leisure industry. The project is being carried out above a live retail centre and adjacent to occupied commercial offices; our dedicated site team is working closely with all parties to ensure a smooth delivery.”
This is the second Premier Inn which Clegg Construction has completed, with the first being a 118 bedroom hotel in Derby City Centre.
The project at Headingley continues Clegg Construction’s planned expansion in Yorkshire. The Leeds office of the company has just handed over a new £6.2m Head Office and Manufacturing facility at Calder Park for prominent Wakefield business, OE Electrics.
The company is currently on site at Solly Street Sheffield, building a student accommodation scheme. The £8m project for Empiric will provide 107 student bedrooms and is due for completion in September.
