HTL Group take on new cycle challenge ‘HTL 100’ to help children battling cancer
Cramlington based HTL Group are taking on a new cycling challenge; HTL 100 this summer to raise money for their adopted charity, Jessica’s Sarcoma Awareness.
Joined by family and friends from the charity, the controlled bolting manufacturer complete an annual cycling challenge each year to raise money for children and teenagers who are fighting cancer.
Jessica’s Sarcoma Awareness is a local charity that was set up by the family of Jessica Robson who sadly lost her battle to a rare form of cancer; Alveolar Sarcoma, at the young age of 18. Alveolar Soft Part Sarcoma (ASPS) is a very rare, slow-growing tumour of an unknown origin, which arises primarily in children and young adults.
The charity supports children fighting cancer by aspiring to achieve Jessica’s dream of building a respite lodge for families and children who are battling cancer. The lodge project which is in its early stages now, will provide families with a place to stay whilst undergoing cancer treatment at the RVI hospital in Newcastle, as well as offering a chance to make treasured memories away from home.
Each cyclist has a sponsorship target of £100, however 2015 & 2016 cycle challenge participants exceeded all expectations and have beaten their target 2 years running with the unbelievable support and generosity of supporters.
Julie, Trevor and Nicole Robson comment:
“Jessica has left such a legacy and through all her hard work for fighting this horrible disease her inspiration has continued through everyone that knew her or getting to know her every day.
HTL unfortunately didn’t get the pleasure to meet Jess but her inspiration has driven this lovely team of people to take on another challenge in her memory. For the last three years, these guys have come together to raise funds and awareness for Jessica’s charity and every year the team and support gets bigger, long may it continue.“
The 2 day challenge will see participants cover a distance of 100 miles through the rolling roads of Northumberland. The challenge begins at HTL’s Headquarters in Cramlington, and finishes at Alnwick on day one, before returning to Cramlington on day 2 for a well-earned celebratory family and friends BBQ.
