Free family fun at intu's Summer Party

intu Metrocentre and intu Eldon Square will host two days of free activities and entertainment on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 July as they kick off one of the north east’s biggest summer celebrations.

Visitors to intu Metrocentre will enjoy a host of free family fun to celebrate the start of summer in style. Shoppers can sit back and relax in a giant deckchair, soak up a tropical vibe as the North Tyneside Steel Band provides a joyful soundtrack to summer, while little ones play in the sand at the indoor beach, or embrace their inner mini-swashbuckler and venture on to a pirate ship after decorating their very own pirate hat.

All the fun of the fair is on the agenda, with a crazy golf course, fun photo booths and even a digital caricaturist who will create digital portraits for shoppers to take away as a memento of the party.

Herbert, Sherbert, Maggot and Rusty as well as Fairytale Princesses will be entertaining shoppers on the malls and customers can even snap a selfie with giant roaming seagulls or the hilarious Granny Turismos.

The summertime fun continues over at intu Eldon Square where an eclectic mix of bands, acoustic artists and singers will be putting smiles on the faces of intu shoppers during its ‘Summer Party’ weekend - alongside fun garden games, face painting and chic beauty demonstrations.

The garden theme continues with bouquet and butterfly stilt walkers as well as cute and creative children’s crafts, where young gardeners will have the chance to decorate and personalise their very own garden gnome and make veggie babies out of prize winning potatoes!

In addition to the fun, free, family entertainment, there will be tasty food sampling taking place across both centres, showcasing the very best food and drink offers available to visitors, as well as the chance to walk away with some fabulous prizes.

At intu Metrocentre, visitors can have a little retro fun and try to beat the giant buzz wire machine – the quickest time wins a £100 intu Gift Card. At intu Eldon Square shoppers can try their luck at a traditional tombola - not only are there hundreds of prizes up for grabs but the tombola is raising vital funds for Hadrian School in Benwell, one of intu’s Charities of The Year.

Activities taking place at intu Metrocentre from 10 am – 6 pm on Saturday 1 July and 11 am – 5 pm Sunday 2 July include:

Crazy Golf Course: Town Square, near House of Fraser Tee up for crazy golf this summer and enjoy the 9 hole course in lower Town Square.

Beach & Pirate Ship: Exhibition Square, near Primark intu Metrocentre’s giant beach is back for the intu Summer Party. Sit back and relax while little ones play in the sand. They’ll even get the chance to climb aboard a pirate ship.

Giant Buzz Wire Competition: Upper Green Mall, near Topman Try to beat the giant buzz wire machine – aim to get the quickest score at the end of the weekend for the chance to win a £100 intu Gift Card

Topshop Photo Booth: Lower Qube Capture your intu Summer Party memories in the Topshop Photo Booth.

Tasty Summer Treats: Lower Exhibition Square, near Primark Check out the ice cream bike where retailers such as Movenpick and Bella Italia who will be enticing shoppers with the sweet taste of summer.

Digital Caricaturist: Lower Qube Let the caricaturist work his magic and create a portrait using only his iPad. Guests will receive a 6 x 4’’ print out and an email with their portrait on too.

Roaming Entertainment: Throughout intu Metrocentre Malls Look out for amazing entertainers who will be exploring the malls over the weekend. You’ll get to meet some Disney inspired Princesses, Giant Seagulls, the hilarious Granny Turismos and more! Herbert, Sherbet, Maggot and Rusty will also be joining in the fun.

North Tyneside Steel Band: Lower Exhibition Square, near Primark The fantastic North Tyneside Steel band will be bringing the sound of summer using just pans and percussion.

Craft Activities, The Village Mini-swashbucklers will be able to decorate their own pirate hat before they climb aboard the pirate ship in Exhibition Square! Ahoy there matey!

Activities taking place at intu Eldon Square from 11 am – 5 pm on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 July include:

Live music: St Andrew’s Way, near Debenhams Sit back relax and enjoy live music from a variety of bands, acoustic artists and singers all while sampling some of the best food and drink on offer within the centre.

Kids’ fun: Blackettbridge, near hmv Arts and craft activities for kids Saturday 1 July: Veggie babies. Pick a prize winning potato and turn it into a veggie baby, dress it and complete a birth certificate to take home. Sunday 2 July: Gnome painting. Personalise your very own gnome to take home and pop in your garden ready for summer.

Summer party tombola: Grey’s Quarter Roll up, roll up! The intu summer party tombola is raising funds for Hadrian School - hundreds of prizes are up for grabs including fabulous beauty hampers and yummy restaurant vouchers.

Foodie freebies: St Andrew’s Way, near Debenhams Sample some of the very best food and drink on offer from intu Eldon Square.

Garden Games: Grey’s Quarter Enjoy a range of garden games with friends and family, including croquet and giant ker-plunk.

Beauty demos & face painting: Chevy Chase, near Whittard of Chelsea Enjoy free beauty demos and makeovers with free face painting for little ones.

Buskers: St George’s Way, near Waitrose Fantastic local singers showcasing their skills and helping to raise funds for Hadrian School.
