Boris continues campaign drive with RHCV visit

East Midlands Renault Trucks Distributor RH Commercial Vehicles received a special visit from Boris Johnson MP recently, when he visited Nottingham as part of his General Election Campaign trail.

The Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs toured RHCV’s site in Nottingham, meeting various members of staff and technicians at the firm.

Mr Johnson - who was one of the key senior ministers leading the Brexit campaign team - also had the opportunity to once again speak with RHCV’s Managing Director Nigel Baxter, who was vocal as a key Leave campaigner across the East Midlands during Brexit, in his capacity as East Midlands Business for Britain Chairman.

This was the second political visit for the firm in 12 months who currently employ 80 staff members in Nottingham, Cossington in Leicestershire and Alfreton in Derbyshire. Last year, RHCV welcomed the new Transport Minister Chris Grayling, as part of the Brexit campaign.

Nigel commented: “We are honoured that one of the key ministers in Theresa May’s team was able to take the time to visit RHCV. It was a great opportunity for Mr Johnson to meet various members of the team and speak to them about key topics that could affect them.

“With the election around the corner, it’s important that SMEs and medium-sized businesses have a voice and visits like this are important in achieving this. From a suitable trade deal after Brexit to higher wages and better job aspects, the results from the general election will be pivotal for businesses and their employees.”

Boris Johnson said: “I was delighted to visit RHCV and meet with Nigel and the staff to discuss the future for the freight industry in the coming years which I know will be bright.

“It is a fantastic company, a good local employer with a 40-year track record of delivery across the East Midlands.

“As Foreign Secretary I want all our great companies to benefit from a post-Brexit Britain, opening them up to the world as we strike deals and secure global investment.

“We are already seeing the benefits of Brexit with Nigel telling me during my visit of the extra opportunities since the referendum – and how he expects more once we have left the European Union.”

Celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, RHCV has been selling, leasing, servicing and repairing heavy (HGV) and light commercial (LCV) vehicles across the East Midlands for four decades.
