Communicator give The Woodlands Centre a makeover

Every year the employees at Communicator choose a local charity to sponsor. For the past two years the chosen charity who receives all fundraising, as well as free access to the Communicator email marketing suite, has been Children North East. Children North East are a local charity that has been helping children, young people and families since 1891.

Each year every member of the business is supported in dedicating one working day to supporting charitable activity. This summer, ten volunteers from all of the teams across Communicator joined forces to make over the garden at the Children North East’s Woodlands Centre in High Heaton, Newcastle. With a £550 budget all generated from Communicator fundraising, the team got to work transforming the outdoor space used by the children. The brief allowed the team to be as creative as they wished, and despite the rain, the team created planted flowerbeds that were specifically sensory plants for the children to look at and smell. They brightened the dull fences and added outdoor chalkboards for the children to draw on.

The Gardening Project Manager and also Product Operations Manager by day, Harry Broome had this to say about the day:

“The day that we spent at the Woodlands centre, revamping the garden for Children North East was both great fun and rewarding. The whole team worked with enthusiasm and pride and the end result made me so happy.

It really feels like we have made a difference to people’s lives and we had a wonderful time in the process too.

I can definitely see the people involved volunteering for this sort of day again, I know I will.“

The team came back to the office with a great sense of achievement having made a big difference to the children’s experience at the wonderful facility ran by Children North East.
