Fitzrovia remains a popular choice for restaurant operators with new Greek eatery opening in July

A new contemporary Greek restaurant headed up by the team behind a string of London restaurant is coming to Fitzrovia this summer.

Meraki, which is being headed up by Peter Waney, is a new 150-cover restaurant on Great Titchfield Street which will be opening in July at a 4,600 sq ft site in the upmarket London neighbourhood.

The new eatery marks yet another venue for Waney who co-founded other London restaurants including Roka, Oblix, Zuma and The Arts Club with his brother Arjun.

On the menu will be chargrilled meats and whole fish, as well as a rotating choice of mezze dishes, which will all be offered alongside Greek wines from independent growers, craft beers from Greece and cocktails derived from Mediterranean herbs, spirits and liqueurs.

Overseeing things in the kitchen will be Greek-born Head Chef, Dimitrios Siamanis, who has previously cooked at Michelin-starred restaurants Zafferano in Belgravia, The Square in Mayfair, and Alain Ducasse’s The Grill at the Dorchester Hotel.

Restaurant agent, Restaurant Property, were behind the deal for the new unit which includes two alfresco terraces and a bar area, with the brothers signing a 15-year lease for the property.

And David Rawlinson, Founding Director of Restaurant Property, believes that Fitzrovia is a perfect fit for the venue, with the area becoming especially popular in recent years as businesses have fanned out from the ever-popular Charlotte Street area.

He said: “Fitzrovia exploded onto most operator’s radar when The Riding House Cafe opened with huge success.

“Before then, Charlotte Street in Fitzrovia was the only place to be - home of the original Roka and Pied a Terre alongside the Charlotte Street Hotel.

“Since then Picture and Portland have opened on Great Portland Street and now Central / Eastern Fitzrovia is as much in demand as other prime parts of the West End.

“This is due to landlord’s rental expectations being £80/£100 psf - which is approximately half that of Soho, or Mayfair!”
