UKCM makes a splash at the Great North Swim

Two members of the senior management team at Winnington-based business, UK Container Maintenance (UKCM), recently donned their wetsuits and swimming caps for the Great North Swim.

The renowned event took place at Lake Windermere in the Lake District. Sisters Emma Elston, CEO of UKCM, and Liz Wolstenholme, operations director at the company swam in aid of UKCM’s charity of the year, Mind.

Having set themselves a fundraising target of £1,000, donations have been flooding in since April and the sisters have now raised over £3,100 for the cause.

Emma Elston said: “Since we agreed on Mind being the company’s charity of the year, we’ve been keen to take part in fundraising events that will not only raise lots of money but also ones that take us completely out of our comfort zone and the Great North Swim certainly did that.

“The weather wasn’t great, the lake was very cold and swimming was really tough, but the day was fantastic and I am so proud of us both. Plus to have raised over £3,000 made it all worthwhile”

Emma added: “We all know someone who struggles or who has struggled with their mental health, if not ourselves direct. As a company, we are keen to raise awareness and shake off the stigma that is often attached to mental health problems.”
