Details revealed for major Anfield transformation

Investors and business occupiers are being sought for a regenerated high street next to the home of Liverpool FC.

At an event held Anfield stadium’s Main Stand this week (June 29), Liverpool City Council and its partners revealed their vision for the transformation of nearby Walton Breck Road, where they are building new shops and homes over the next two years.

Work to demolish scores of derelict properties on the thoroughfare is already underway. The new retail, commercial, residential and leisure space will be available for sale and to let to prospective investors and operators.

The project will include wider pavements to make the street more pedestrian-friendly, in addition to new outdoor spaces and landscaping.

Developer Keepmoat is delivering the scheme in partnership with Priority Spaces.

Liverpool City Council said it hopes the changes will interest new businesses keen to take advantage of the proximity to LFC’s home ground.

The Walton Breck Road transformation is the latest stage in a wider £260m regeneration plan driven by a partnership between the city council, the club and housing provider Your Housing Group.

While existing companies are being given the opportunity to take on new premises following the overhaul, the city council and its partners are keen to attract new businesses to the area, including both independents and national brands.

Joe Anderson, Liverpool Mayor, said: “We believe we have created a vision for the high street which will absolutely transform the area, supporting existing shops and businesses and attracting new ones.

“We now want businesses and investors to come forward so we can help them take up what is a unique opportunity.”

Brian Cronin, chief executive of Your Housing Group, commented: “Anyone visiting Anfield in the last year can see the improvements which have already been made.

“Much has also been done through the delivery of new-build homes and the imaginative refurbishment of traditional terraces. We can already see the brighter Anfield which is emerging.”
