Kier to build £70m 'state-of-the-art' private hospital in Manchester
Construction services firm Kier has been appointment to work on a new multi-million pound Manchester hospital for healthcare provider Nuffield Health.
The scheme, representing a £70m investment from Nuffield, will see a hospital built on the site of Manchester Metropolitan University’s former Hathersage Road campus.
Signalling Kier’s expansion into the private health sector, the development will create more than 90,000 sq ft of healthcare facilities across three floors, including 50 patient rooms, 30 consultation rooms, five operating theatres and an imaging and diagnostic suite.
Kier Construction’s Northern managing director, John O’Callaghan, said of the project: “We’re extremely pleased to have been awarded this opportunity to provide a state-of-the-art hospital in Manchester and are looking forward to developing the strong working relationship we have built with Nuffield Health in the pre-construction phase of the project.
“Kier has built over £2bn of healthcare facilities in the past 12 years and we’ll be using our experience and expertise in this sector to ensure we deliver a world class facility for patients.”
The contract win with Nuffield has added to Kier’s growing footprint in Manchester.
Earlier this year, the firm created 250 jobs in the city with the launch of its national Finance Shared Service Centre to complement existing offices in Queen Street and Trafford Park.
Construction on the hospital expected to begin later this year, with completion due in Spring 2019.
