Two Michelin starred Hong Kong restaurant to make UK debut in London
Duddell’s, the two Michelin star Hong Kong restaurant famous for its traditional Cantonese cooking, is to open its debut UK site in London.
Housed within St Thomas’ Church, the 300-year-old restored church at London Bridge, the new restaurant will cover 5,802 sq ft spread over a basement, ground floor and mezzanine level.
A ‘stylish and relaxed’ interior is promised with curated exhibitions and an ambition to make the space a social and cultural destination in its own right.
On the menu will be high-end, Cantonese cuisine and dim sum served in a contemporary style, overseen by Daren Liew who will head up the kitchen and brings with him decades of experience including a stint as executive sous chef at the Hakkasan Group.
The venue will be Duddell’s first outside of Hong Kong, after Alan Lo, Paulo Pong and Yenn Wong’s original site, which opened in June 2013 and has since won effusive column inches for its food and decor.
Acting on behalf of St Thomas’ Church were London-headquartered leisure property agents Shelley Sandzer, and Partner Leo Feldman at the firm believes the new site will provide a ‘spectacular’ addition to the capital’s dining scene.
He commented: “This unique building will make one of the most spectacular dining destinations in the capital. With its rich heritage, this building has bags of character and we have no doubt that Duddell’s will create the same buzz as they have in Hong Kong.”
Chris Gass who represents St Thomas’s Church LLP, added: “Shelley Sandzer’s wealth of experience in bringing overseas brands to the UK for the first time ensured that we were able to secure an exciting operator to take over the Church.”
