BBC plots major recruitment drive at MediaCityUK
The BBC has announced plans to invest in its Salford operation with the creation of over 200 jobs.
The broadcaster today (July 6) confirmed a major recruitment drive at its MediaCityUK HQ, with roles such as engineers, UX designers and project managers available across some of its core digital services, including BBC Sport.
Positions will also be filled in its Homepage, Education, Children’s and Content Discovery teams.
BBC Children’s and BBC North director Alice Webb said: “We have enjoyed strong growth since we opened here six years ago and we now produce around 35k hours of BBC content from Salford per year.
“Our digital teams have been absolutely central to driving the advances needed to deliver the highest quality user experience to our audiences.”
She continued: “Here in Salford we will continue to lead the market by developing and delivering the highest quality, personalised experience of BBC services to audiences, and we need the brightest and best digital professionals to drive this forward.”
The organisation is also doubling its Salford-based software engineering graduate programme.
The BBC’s chief technology and product officer, Matthew Postgate, commented: “Our team in Salford has already delivered audiences an award winning digital sport service, cutting edge innovation through our Research & Development teams and world-leading apps and digital services.
“We’re now going to reinvent the BBC for a new generation and we want the best team in Salford to help us get there.”
With more than 3,000 members of staff working at the BBC’s MediaCityUK base, the broadcaster is now one of the North’s biggest tech employers.
